About the 500 Summer Challenge
The 500 Summer Challenge
has become one of the premier fundraising special events for Endeavour Foundation, and is on this year from 20th to 22nd November.
Each year, approximately
400 runners gather at 4.30am on a Friday morning to start a 500 kilometre
running relay that will take three days to complete.
Race Director, Phil Hungerford, describes the 500 Summer Challenge as one of
the most difficult and challenging events that runners encounter, but being the
last event on the running calendar means that the athletes are in prime condition
and prepared for the gruelling conditions.
A maximum of twenty teams are accepted to compete, with teams from
Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Warwick regular entrants each
year. Each team must have between 16 and 22 runners with each runner
competing in at least 4 but not more that 8 sections over the weekend.
Teams are required to supply a follow vehicle and a water vehicle
with drivers, and will need a bus to carry the team runners around
the course.
