SUMMER CHALLENGE
GENERAL RULES
- There will be a maximum of 20 teams only on the event.
- Seatbelts must be worn during the event.
- Water Truck drivers or people watering runners must wear safety
vests - to be supplied by teams.
- All vehicles must be roadworthy.
- Runners are not permitted to wear MP3 players, walkmans, etc.
- The two new special legs are not a Criterium, the minimum of
4 runs, maximum of 8 to include a Criterium still applies. A
runner may still only run one Criterium.
- Buses are not permitted to Park within 100m after a changeover.
RACE RULES
*****INFRINGEMENT OF ANY RACE RULE WILL INCUR A
PENALTY OF 1 HOUR EACH, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED*****
- At least one team representative must attend scheduled meetings
throughout the year.
- Each team will consist of a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 22
runners (no reserves).
- Each runner must complete between 4 to 8 sections throughout
the course of the race.
- Teams are required to cover the runner with one vehicle at all
times.
The Follow vehicle and the water vehicle should both have the yellow
warning sign. (ONLY OFFICIAL POLICE VEHICLES ARE EXEMPT).
Therefore, if a problem develops with the Follow vehicle, the water
vehicle will always be within close vicinity to take over protection
of the runner in a vehicle conforming to the police permit. A flashing
light will be on all Following Vehicles
- No person under 14 years allowed on relay.
- Runners under 18 years and over 14 years will only run 5 times
including a criterion.
- Children under 1 year are permitted on the event, but must remain
restrained in a vehicle at all times.
- All teams must comply with the terms of the Police Permit (copy
to be provided).
Please note - no runner will be allowed to run after the time defined
on the police permit.
- All runners will wear nominated uniform (NB - includes singlets
- NO EXCEPTIONS!); during the time they run their sections.
- All runners will wear a race number (NB - NO EXCEPTIONS!), during
the times whilst running their sections.
- Each incoming runner will touch the hand of the outgoing runner
at the changeover of sections, within the marked changeover zone.
PENALTY - 15 MIN
- The Race Director must receive medical forms by 18 November. If
not received by race start, the team will not be allowed to compete.
PENALTY - 30 SEC PER LATE FORM PER DAY
- All team members must obey any instructions from officials regarding
observation of safety rules.
- No team members must be seen consuming alcohol outside of a vehicle
and/or along the side of the road.
- Littering throughout the course is prohibited.
- Team members and passengers from any team vehicles, must not
stray onto the road at change over points.
PENALTY 15 MIN PER PERSON, 1ST VERBAL WARNING ISUED AT
MANAGERS MEETING
- ABSOLUTELY no group team finishes - exception to this rule is
IPSWICH FINISH LINE ONLY.
- Teams not obeying Parking Instructions.
- Runners and vehicles, MUST obey traffic signals.
AT THE DISCRETION OF RACE MANAGEMENT, INFRINGEMENTS OF
RULES WILL INITIALLY INCUR ONE TEAM WARNING - TIME PENALTIES
WILL BE ALLOCATED ON RECURRING OCCASIONS.
THE RACE MANAGEMENT WILL PERSONALLY SEE THE TEAM MANAGER
TO INCUR TIME PENALTIES AND WARNING.
REPEATED OR MULTIPLE INFRINGEMENTS WILL INCUR MORE SEVERE
PENALTIES AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE RACE MANAGEMENT!!!
CRITERIUM

PENALTY OF 5 MINUTES EACH, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED*****
3 Criteriums will be held over the 3 days of the 500 Summer Challenge.
The first will be in Boonah on Friday night. The second will be in Toowoomba
and the final Criterium will be held in Gatton.
RULES FOR CRITERIUM
- 6 people will run each Criterium.
- Can only run one Criterium over the 3 days.
- Runners must still run 3 times over the rest of relay.
- Each team will supply 2 marshals for each Criterium.
- If a team has only 16 or 17 runners, one or two runners can run 2 criteriums,
but no runners will run more than two over the course of the relay.
PENALTIES ALL 10 MIN
- Not supplying 6 runners for Criterium. (10 minutes added to slowest
runner in the criterium).
- Not supplying different 6 runners. (10 minutes added to slowest runner
in criterium).
- Not supplying 2 marshals (10 minutes added to the total team’s
time for that criterium).
- If a runner can not run because of injury - that will make that runner
ineligible to run over the rest of the relay. The team
will receive a 30 minute penalty if the injured runner has not
completed the minimum runs
